Tips

usage
In literary Chinese it turns figurative: 俯仰之间 (in the blink of an eye) and 俯仰由人 (at others' beck and call). 王羲之's 《兰亭集序》 uses the first to measure a life: 向之所欣,俯仰之间,已为陈迹 (what delighted us a moment ago has, in the time it takes to look down and up, become a thing of the past).
