Even after the three-child policy came out, housing and education costs still deter people from having more kids.
Tips
history
China's one-child policy (1980) became a two-child policy in 2016 and a 三胎 (three-child) policy in May 2021, responding to a rapidly aging population and collapsing birth rate. The policy shift has so far not reversed the demographic decline.
usage
胎 literally 'pregnancy / fetus'; also used in 头胎 (first child), 二胎 (second child), 双胎 (twins).
