Tips

history
Credited to the Tang poet 刘禹锡, it opens 山不在高,有仙则名 'a mountain need not be high: if an immortal lives there, it is famous', and argues that a plain room is ennobled by the virtue of the person in it. It ends with Confucius' words 何陋之有 'what is humble about it?'
culture
Its couplet 谈笑有鸿儒,往来无白丁 'I talk and laugh with great scholars; no unlettered men come and go' is still quoted, half in jest, about the company one keeps. The piece is a standard middle-school text.
