Tips

culture
The whole poem: 京口瓜洲一水间,钟山只隔数重山。春风又绿江南岸,明月何时照我还。 'Jingkou and Guazhou lie one stretch of water apart; Zhongshan is only a few hills away. The spring wind greens the south bank once more; when will the bright moon light my way home?' Guazhou was a ferry town on the north bank of the Yangtze, opposite 京口, today's 镇江.
history
A Song-dynasty note says that 王安石 first wrote 到 'reaches', crossed it out, tried 过 'passes', 入 'enters' and 满 'fills', about ten words in all, and finally chose 绿 'greens'. It is the classroom example of choosing the one right word.
