From Mao Zedong's (毛泽东) 《卜算子·咏梅》(1961): 待到山花烂漫时，她在丛中笑。(When the mountain flowers bloom in full glory, she will smile among them.) 'She' is the plum blossom (梅) — blooming in snow, unenvious of spring, quietly smiling when the other flowers finally arrive. A reply poem to Lu You's plum-blossom ci of the same tune.
usage
烂漫 (lànmàn) = 'profuse, riotous, unrestrained' in bloom — not the English loan 'romantic,' even though the sound is similar. Used metaphorically for any delayed but inevitable success.
