The PRC court system is tiered: 基层 (jīcéng, basic) → 中级 (zhōngjí, intermediate) → 高级 (gāojí, high) → 最高 (zuìgāo, supreme). Prosecutions are handled by 人民检察院 (rénmín jiǎncháyuàn, People's Procuratorate), not the court itself.
