Tips

history
Often tied to the legend of Jiang Ziya (姜子牙): his wife left him during his poor years. When he later became Zhou's grand advisor, she asked to return. He poured a basin of water on the ground and told her to scoop it back up - which she could not. 《后汉书·何进传》 also uses the phrase to warn about decisions that cannot be reversed.
