欧内斯特

Most famous bearer in Chinese-translated literature is 欧内斯特·海明威 (Ernest Hemingway, 1899-1961), Nobel laureate and author of 《老人与海》 (The Old Man and the Sea), 《永别了，武器》 (A Farewell to Arms), 《太阳照常升起》 (The Sun Also Rises). Other notable Ernests: physicist 欧内斯特·卢瑟福 (Ernest Rutherford), explorer 欧内斯特·沙克尔顿 (Ernest Shackleton).

Phonetic mapping: 欧 (Ōu, 'Er-'), 内 (nèi, '-n-'), 斯 (sī, '-s-'), 特 (tè, '-t'). Notice the trick: there's no obvious 'e' sound in 欧, but 欧 (Ōu) is the conventional opener for 'Eu-' / 'Er-' in European-name transliterations (compare 欧洲 'Europe', 欧元 'Euro').
