Tips

usage

不一样 is the everyday word. 不同 means the same but sounds more formal and can go straight before a noun: 不同国家 'different countries'. 不一样 needs 的 there: 不一样的想法 'a different idea'. Compare two things with 跟 or 和: A 跟 B 不一样.

mistakes

Watch the tones: bù yíyàng. 一 changes to yí before the fourth-tone 样, while 不 stays bù because the syllable after it, 一, is underlyingly first tone.
