Compiled around the 4th century BCE, traditionally attributed to the blind historian Zuo Qiuming (左丘明 Zuǒ Qiūmíng). It's one of the 'Three Commentaries' on the Spring and Autumn Annals (春秋三传) and the richest narrative source for the Spring and Autumn period (770–476 BCE). Usually shortened to 《左传》 (Zuǒ Zhuàn) in modern citations.

Full-form name; in everyday usage, even academic, you'll see 《左传》 far more often. Quoting from it confers a literary/historical air.
