Compiled around the 4th century BCE, traditionally attributed to the blind historian Zuo Qiuming (
左丘明 Zuǒ Qiūmíng). It's one of the 'Three Commentaries' on the Spring and Autumn Annals (
春秋三传) and the richest narrative source for the Spring and Autumn period (770–476 BCE). Usually shortened to 《
左传》 (Zuǒ Zhuàn) in modern citations.
