The most-cited Pingshan is the county in
宜宾 (Yíbīn) on the upper Yangtze in Sichuan, home to the
老君山 fossil mountain. The name literally means 'screen mountain' — a mountain whose shape resembles a
屏风 (píngfēng), a folding decorative screen. Several smaller Pingshans exist nationwide for the same reason.
