宜宾 sits at the confluence of the
金沙江 and
岷江, the point where the combined river is first called
长江 — earning the city its nickname
万里长江第一城 ('the first city on the ten-thousand-li Yangtze'). It's the home of
五粮液, one of China's most famous
白酒 distilleries, and of
宜宾燃面 (dry-stirred spicy noodles).
