安康 sits on the
汉江 (Han River) in the narrow strip of Shaanxi south of the
秦岭 — geographically more like Sichuan or Hubei than the rest of the province. It's known for
富硒茶 (selenium-enriched tea),
紫阳茶, and being one of the wettest parts of northern China. The city was renamed from
兴安 to
安康 during the Qing to avoid a taboo name clash.
