白云山 (BáiyúnShān): Baiyun Mountain / White Cloud Mountain (signature mountain of Guangzhou; also the name of several other scenic peaks across China)

Guangzhou's Baiyun Mountain is the city's "green lung" — Cantonese locals consider it one of the "Eight Scenes of Yangcheng" (羊城八景) going back to the Song dynasty. The main peak 摩星岭 is the highest point in the city proper.

usage

Because the name simply means "White Cloud Mountain," it recurs nationwide — Henan Luoyang, Shaanxi Yulin, and elsewhere all have their own 白云山. In Guangdong context, 白云山 defaults to the Guangzhou one; 白云 on its own also labels the airport (白云机场) and a Guangzhou district.
