history

From the Zhou dynasty, 太师 was the senior of the 三公 (Three Dukes), alongside 太傅 and 太保. By Ming-Qing times it was largely an honorary title granted to high officials. 《封神演义》's 闻太师 Wen Zhong is the most famous fictional bearer.
