At Foguang Temple, Liang Sicheng and Lin Huiyin found a hall from the Tang dynasty.

In the 1930s it was widely held that no wooden building from the Tang survived in China. In 1937 梁思成 and 林徽因 reached 佛光寺 and found its East Hall, built in 857. Only the smaller main hall of 南禅寺 in the same county, built in 782, is older.
