usage

Abbreviation of 五言绝句. Four lines of five characters each = 20 characters total. The counterpart 七绝 (七言绝句) uses seven characters per line.

culture

Tang dynasty peak form. Li Bai's 《静夜思》 (床前明月光…) is probably the single most memorized 五绝 in Chinese education.
