Son of the famed Song general Han Shizhong 韩世忠 (Hán Shìzhōng). While serving as prefect of Wenzhou, Han Yanzhi compiled 《橘录》(Jú Lù, 'Treatise on Oranges') in 1178 — the world's first systematic monograph on citrus, classifying 27 varieties.
