Tips

history
Han Fei was a prince of the state of Han who studied under 荀子 alongside 李斯. He argued that a ruler governs through clear laws 法, methods for controlling his officials 术 and the power of his position 势. The king of Qin, later 秦始皇, admired his writings, yet Han Fei died in a Qin prison in 233 BC, reportedly poisoned at Li Si's urging.
usage
The book was first called 韩子. From the Song dynasty on it became 韩非子, to keep it apart from the Tang writer 韩愈, who was also honoured as 韩子. Its fables include 守株待兔 and 自相矛盾.
