Tips

history
张志和 wrote his five in 774 in Huzhou, where he was visiting the prefect 颜真卿. The first, a single stanza of 27 characters that opens 西塞山前白鹭飞 and ends 斜风细雨不须归, is the one learned in school and the one meant when people say 渔歌子 alone. Within fifty years the tune had reached Japan, where Emperor Saga wrote his own Chinese poems to it.
