history
A 檄 was an official document on a wooden slip, used to raise troops or condemn an enemy. Two are famous: 陈琳's attack on 曹操, written for 袁绍, and 骆宾王's call to rise against 武则天. Wu Zetian is said to have admired it and blamed her chancellor for leaving such a writer unemployed.
