The plum flowers at the end of winter and its scent is faint, so 暗香 became its stock word: Lin Bu's 疏影横斜水清浅，暗香浮动月黄昏 and Wang Anshi's 遥知不是雪，为有暗香来. Jiang Kui later took 暗香 and 疏影 from Lin Bu's couplet as the titles of two tunes he wrote.
