Tips

history
Shide (拾得, lit. 'picked up') was supposedly an orphan found and raised at Guoqing Temple on Mt. Tiantai, hence the name. He and his friend Hanshan (寒山) became Chan-Buddhist folk icons; their dialogue 'Bear it, yield to it, avoid it...' is widely quoted.
