Tips

history
Shide (拾得, lit. 'picked up') was supposedly an orphan found and raised at Guoqing Temple on Mt. Tiantai — hence the name. He and his friend Hanshan () became Chan-Buddhist folk icons; their dialogue 'Bear it, yield to it, avoid it...' is widely quoted.
