Tips

history
Borrowed from Japanese お (otaku). Chinese internet culture split it by gender — 宅男 for men, 宅女 for women — and stripped much of the Japanese anime-fan connotation, so in everyday Chinese it mostly means "a guy who stays home a lot with games, anime, or the internet."
