Written by
赵晔 in the Eastern Han, it tells the feud between Wu and Yue at the end of the Spring and Autumn period:
伍子胥's flight and revenge, King
夫差's victory, and
勾践's years of humiliation and final triumph. It mixes history with legend and reads almost like a novel. Ten of its twelve juan survive.
