culture
The saying 桂林山水天下 ('Guilin's scenery is the finest under heaven') is attributed to Song-dynasty official Wang Zhenggong (1133–1203), who inscribed it on a cliff at Duxiu Peak in 1201. The phrase became tourism shorthand for Guilin's karst mountains and the Li River.
