history
Founded by Sima Yan (司马炎) in 265 when he deposed the last Wei emperor — the Sima family had spent a generation out-manoeuvring Cao Cao's heirs. Western Jin briefly reunited China (280) but collapsed into the Sixteen Kingdoms, pushing the court south to become Eastern Jin.
