After Luoyang fell in 311, Sima Rui re-established the dynasty at Jiankang (建康, modern Nanjing) - 'Eastern' by capital. The era produced the Orchid Pavilion Preface (《兰亭集序》) and the Battle of Fei River (淝水之战), where 80,000 Jin troops routed a vastly larger northern army.
