Founded by Yang Jian (
杨坚, Emperor Wen) in 581 and destroyed only 37 years later by his son Yang Guang's ruinous mega-projects — the Grand Canal and three failed invasions of Goguryeo. The Tang inherited its Three Departments and Six Ministries system almost unchanged.
