Tips

history
From Meng Haoran's (孟浩然) Tang-dynasty poem 《》 (Spring Dawn). Full quatrain: 『不觉处处风雨多少』— 'Spring sleep, I didn't notice the dawn; everywhere I hear the crying birds. Last night came the sound of wind and rain — how many blossoms fell?' One of the most memorized poems in Chinese primary schools.
usage
Evokes a fresh spring morning. Often quoted on its own for any scene saturated with birdsong. The here means 'to call/cry' (of birds), not 'to weep.'
