Beijing's 东城区 (Dongcheng District) covers the eastern half of the historic inner city, including the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, the Temple of Heaven (天坛), and the Wangfujing shopping street. In 2010 the old 崇文区 was merged into it.
usage
The name literally means 'east city'. Several other Chinese cities also have an 东城区 (e.g. Dongguan) — context tells you which.
