Literally 'prince's mansion well'. During the Ming dynasty (from 1417) ten princely mansions were built here around a sweet-water well — unusual for Beijing where water was often brackish. The name stuck. Today it's a flagship shopping district near the Forbidden City, home to the

东安市场.
