history

Changchun ('Long Spring') was the capital of Japanese-occupied Manchukuo (满洲国) from 1932–45, when it was renamed 新京 (Xinjing, 'New Capital'). In 1953 China built its first automobile plant here — 第一汽车制造厂 (FAW) — giving Changchun its nickname 汽车城 ('Auto City').
