The opening line of the Tang-dynasty poem 《悯农》 (second of two) by 李绅: “锄禾日当午，汗滴禾下土。谁知盘中餐，粒粒皆辛苦。” Chinese schoolchildren memorize it to learn to value food and the labor behind it.
usage
Usually quoted together with the next line 汗滴禾下土 and the closing 粒粒皆辛苦. The whole poem is only four lines, and nearly everyone in China can recite it.
