Books of the Analects are named after their opening words. Book 7 begins
子曰:
述而不作,
信而好古 'The Master said: I pass on and do not invent; I trust and love the ancients', so it is called
述而, 'pass on, and'. It holds many of Confucius's remarks about himself, among them
三人行,
必有我师焉 'when three walk together, one of them can be my teacher'.
