请安 was a specific gesture: men dropped to a half-kneel on the right knee (
打千), women bent slightly with hands on the left knee. You see it constantly in palace dramas like 《
甄嬛传》(Empresses in the Palace). In modern speech it survives as a polite greeting between generations.
