袖狗 (literally 'sleeve dog') is the historical Chinese term for the tiny Pekingese kept by Qing palace women — small enough to be carried in the wide sleeves of court robes. Some Western writers translate the term as 'sleeve dog' or 'sleeve Pekingese'.
