Yang Hong served as Grand Administrator of Shu Commandery (蜀郡太守) and was praised by Zhuge Liang for his decisiveness during Liu Bei's 222 CE defeat at Xiaoting — he argued for defending Chengdu against a proposed retreat. His biography appears in 《三国志·蜀书》.
