史记》 has 130 chapters: 12
本纪 (basic annals), 10 tables, 8 treatises, 30
世家 (hereditary houses) and 70
列传 (biographies). Later dynastic histories kept the
本纪 for emperors, but Sima Qian also gave annals to rulers who never held the title, as in
项羽本纪 and
吕太后本纪.
