新冠 is the everyday short form of 新型冠状病毒 (xīnxíng guānzhuàng bìngdú, novel coronavirus). In writing you'll also see 新冠肺炎 (xīnguān fèiyán, COVID pneumonia) and 新冠疫情 (xīnguān yìqíng, the COVID pandemic/outbreak).
mistakes
Read 冠 as guān (first tone, 'crown') here — it refers to the crown-shaped spike protein. Don't read 冠 as guàn (fourth tone, 'champion / to crown'); that reading appears in 冠军 (guànjūn, champion).
