Named after the Tang poet Zhang Daoyou (张打油), whose famously crude four-liner about a snowfall ('江上一笼统, 井上黑窟窿…') became the prototype. Today 打油诗 means any deliberately rough, witty verse — not an insult to the form, but a recognised genre.
