Rooted in Zhu Xi's Song-era commentary on 《论语·》 (the 后生可畏 line): '后生年富力强足以有待' — 'the young have years in abundance and strength, enough to accumulate learning and await their time'. originally meant 'rich in years yet to come', i.e. young.
