The eunuch system (
宦官制度) was a hallmark of Chinese imperial courts for over two millennia. Eunuchs underwent castration and served in the inner palace where uncastrated men were forbidden. At their peak of influence, powerful eunuchs could effectively control emperors and state affairs.
