mistakes
台 is read tāi here, first tone, as in the county 天台 and the city 台州. It is the old character 台, not a simplified 臺 'platform', so traditional script writes it the same way.

国清寺 at its foot, founded in 598, is the school's home temple. The Japanese monk Saichō studied here in 804 and took the teaching home, where it became Tendai Buddhism.
