Henry Hudson (c.1565-1611), English navigator who explored what became the Hudson River and Hudson Bay (
哈德逊湾) for the Dutch and English. Set adrift by his mutinous crew on his last voyage and never seen again. The standard mainland transliteration is
哈德逊 (using
逊 'modest' for the 's-n' tail);
哈德森 is also widely accepted.
