She resolved to practice the piano with all her might, and a year later she finally won the competition.

mistakes

发奋 sounds the same and is often used the same way. 发愤 has 愤 'indignation', being stung into effort, as in 发愤图强; 发奋 has 奋 'to exert oneself'.
