A true knight-errant finishes the job and walks away, hiding both self and name.
Tips
history
From 李白 Li Bai 《侠客行》: 事了拂衣去,深藏身与名 — 'deed done, he flicks his robe and leaves, hiding body and name deep away.' The defining couplet of the Chinese 侠 (xiá, knight-errant) code.
usage
了 here is liǎo (to finish, complete), not the aspect particle le. Almost always quoted with the next line 深藏身与名 — the two together form the knight-errant's motto.
