The Mengzhu Range lies between Hunan and Guangxi, and in ancient times a road over it led south into Lingnan.

history
The old road over it, the 潇贺古道, joined the Xiao River (潇水) in Hunan to the He River in Guangxi, and is said to date from the Qin conquest of the south. The Five Ridges (五岭) are 越城岭, 都庞岭, 萌渚岭, 骑田岭 and 大庾岭; maps today call the whole range 南岭.
