Tips

history
In the autumn of 761 a gale tore the thatch off 杜甫's cottage in 成都, village boys ran off with the straw, and the rain leaked onto his bed all night. The poem ends with a wish: 安得广厦千万间,大庇天下寒士俱欢颜, 'if only I had ten million great houses to shelter all the poor scholars under heaven and make them smile'. Today the museum 杜甫草堂 stands on the site.
grammar
The title uses the classical passive 为……所: 为 names the doer and 所 comes before the verb, so it reads 'the thatched cottage, broken by the autumn wind'. In this pattern 为 is wéi, not wèi.
