Suzhou is celebrated for its classical gardens (UNESCO World Heritage), silk production, and canals — earning it the nickname 'Venice of the East'. The 拙政园 (Humble Administrator's Garden) and 留园 (Lingering Garden) are the most famous.
history
Suzhou was founded in 514 BCE and has been continuously inhabited for over 2,500 years. The proverb 上有天堂,下有苏杭 ('above there's heaven, below there's Suzhou and Hangzhou') captures its legendary status.
